It’s easy to select the right model Get-a-Grip boarding assist handle for your boat.
If your boat is equipped with fishing rod holders on the gunwale, transom or swim platform, you can easily determine the proper size and model which is best suited for your convenient and safe use.
Remember, the large grasping area of the handle should be as close to the boarding ladder where you are exiting or entering the water.
The model 12, 15, 18 & 20 represent the handles approximate distance in inches, measured from the back of the grasping area to the center of the handle where it exits the selected fishing rod holder. The proper sized handle should mount in the 30 or 0 degree flush mount fishing rod holder which will position the grasping area as close to the transom as possible. When measuring your rod holder location, remember this dimension is not a critical mark but an approximate distance to determine the relationship of rod holder to transom. You can now select the grab handle that comes closest to your measurement.
Other factors to be considered is the relationship of the boarding ladder to any hatch, deck hardware or opening that would interfere with the positioning and the safe use of the grab handle.
Boats designed for water skiing, wake boarding and just cruising may not be equipped with any fishing rod holders. Ask your marine dealer to install one at the proper location to assist boarding. See recommendation on Details Page.

The Model 12 Boarding Handle is designed for a rearward facing standard 30 degree flush mounted fishing rod holder mounted on the gunwale approx. 12 - 16 inches forward of the transom. It is also popular mounted on a swim platform in a 0 degree (vertical) rod holder.
This model can also be used on the raked section of a boats extended swim platform, with a 0 degree flush mounted fishing rod holder installed on the rear side structure.

When you need leverage to lift yourself clear of the kayak seat, simply insert the Kayak Assist Handle into a forward mounted secure fishing rod holder, for pulling support.
Most kayaks have the paddler sitting with legs stretched forward and no way to position the feet under the seat to provide balance and stability to stand up. The Kayak Assist Handle will give the added leverage needed to complete this maneuver safely. Since most kayaks do not come equipped with a flush mounted fishing rod holder, it is suggested to contact your kayak dealer to install this feature. They will know the proper placement of the rod holder to be effective for this use.
